Measures procalcitonin, which rises in bacterial infection and sepsis. Used to assess severity and guide antibiotic use.
Preparation
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before the test. For children under 1 year, do not feed for 30-40 minutes before the test. For children aged 1 to 5 years, do not eat for 2-3 hours before the test. Do not eat for 8 hours before the test; still water is allowed. Avoid physical and emotional stress for 30 minutes before the test. Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
