Measures elastase in stool, a marker of pancreatic digestive function. Used to detect pancreatic insufficiency.
Preparation
For 72 hours before stool collection, avoid laxatives, rectal suppositories and oils, and limit (as agreed with your doctor) medications that affect bowel motility (belladonna, pilocarpine, etc.) and those that color the stool (iron, bismuth, barium sulfate).
