Detects Epstein-Barr Virus genetic material by real-time PCR. Used to diagnose active infection.
Preparation
Before oropharyngeal (throat) swabs, for 3-4 hours do not eat, drink, brush teeth, rinse the mouth/throat, chew gum or smoke. Swabs are best taken in the morning, right after sleep. Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test. For 3-4 hours before collecting saliva, do not eat, drink, brush teeth, rinse the mouth/throat or chew gum. Saliva is best collected in the morning, right after sleep. Make sure there is no gum bleeding or mouth injury before collection.
