Measures C-peptide, released with insulin, reflecting the body's own insulin production. Used to assess beta-cell function in diabetes.
Preparation
Avoid alcohol for a day before the test. Do not eat for 8 hours before the test; still water is allowed. Avoid physical and emotional stress 30 minutes before the test. Do not smoke for 3 hours before the test.
