14C Urea Breath Test for Helicobacter pylori
About
Detects antibodies to 14C Urea Breath Test for Helicobacter pylori. Used to assess past or current infection and immune status.
Preparation
Avoid alcohol for 72 hours before the test. Do not eat for 8 hours before the test. Do not drink for 2-3 hours before the test. Perform the test no earlier than 6 weeks after finishing any antibiotics and bismuth preparations. Two weeks before the test, stop (as agreed with your doctor) proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, rabeprazole, lansoprazole, esomeprazole, pantoprazole) and H2 blockers (ranitidine, famotidine, nizatidine, roxatidine). Perform the test at least one day after gastroscopy (EGD), or before it.

Age over 18, not pregnant or breastfeeding.
Avoid: antibiotics and bismuth-containing drugs for 1 month, sucralfate for 2 weeks, and proton pump inhibitors (PPI) for 1 week before the test.
Fast for at least 2 hours (ideally 6); avoid smoking for at least 12 hours. Drinking water is allowed.
